ReThink Theology
I grew up interested in the things of God. I went to Sunday school with my grandmother as a kid. I sat in the class, listening to these people who had been walking with God for decades talk about Scripture. They treated me as an equal and allowed me to participate. By middle school, I was listening to sermons on cassette tapes. By high school, I was serving at church as a part-time staff member.
Those experiences shaped me. I learned so much.
The trap that is too easy to fall into when you grow up in church is believing things simply because of what you were taught without really questioning whether these things hold up to the light of biblical scrutiny.
If you’re like me, most of your theology has been shaped not by what the Bible actually says, but by what your family taught you, the sermons you’ve heard in church, and sometimes your own experiences.
As I’ve grown in my faith, I’ve become increasingly committed to hold true to what Scripture teaches, even if I have to recognize it’s contrary to things I’ve always thought to be true. This devotion to holding Scripture true above all else has caused me to reject a few things along the way and deepened my belief in others.
Along the way, I felt compelled to begin to draft a blog where I could share what I believe Scripture is teaching, help others find a more Scriptural world view, and maybe even share some inspiration for Christian living.
I don’t expect you’ll agree with everything here. That’s OK. Some of these things I wouldn’t have agreed with a few years ago, and if I had to guess, there are some things that in time I will come to learn are mistakes.
My hope is that this blog will inspire you to think more biblically and evaluate your own beliefs and convictions in light of Scripture. Even if we form different conclusions, chasing Jesus and holding His word as truth is the goal.
